Richard Armitage, full name Richard Crispin Armitage is an Actor. Richard Armitage was born on 22 August 1971 in Huncote, Leicester, and Leicestershire, England. This Eniglish actor is famous for many TV dramas like John Thornton on North & South, Lucas North in Spooks, Guy of Gisborne in Robin Hood, John Poter in Strike Back. In the film The Hobbit, he is famous as Thorin Oakenshield. 

Armitage is a son of John Armitage, an engineer and Margaret, a secretary. He did his schooling from Huncote Community Primary School which is in Huncote, Blaby Dristrict, and Leicestershire. He has also attended Brockington College. He has learned playing flute and cello. He enrolled in Pattison College where he pursued a career in acting and dance. He earned A Levels in English and Music.

After finishing his education from Pattinson College, to acquire Equity Card he joined a circus for six weeks in Budapest. After returning from there he joined musical theatre in England, he has performed in 42nd Street, Cats and Annie Get Your Gun. The Real Thing, Death of a Salesman and Six Degrees of Separation are the dramatic theatre where is has performed. He has joined London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art to study acting after being dissatisfied with his ongoing career path. After finishing three-year course in drama school, he re-joined to the stage by playing supporting role in The Duchess of Malfi, Macbeth, Four Alice Bakers and Hemlet. He started playing small roles in films and television. He appeared in Use Me As Your Cardigan in the production of Charm Offensive.

Sparkhouse was the BBC drama where he appeared in major TV role for first time in 2002. He reveled that although it was a minor role, it gave him much recognition. Then he played supporting roles in Between the Sheets, Ultimate Force and Cold Feet. He got his first leading role in the BBC’s North & South where he played a role of textile mill owner called John Thornton. He played in the ShakespeaRe-Told series, Macbeth in 2005 where he played the role of Peter Macduff. He played the role of recovering gambling addict in Inspector Lynley Mysteries’ one episode. Armitage has played different role in many TV dramas like in The Impressionists and The Golden Hour. His first recognized movie break came in Frozen. Armitage started playing in the BBC series Robin Hood as Guy og Gisborne in 2006. He commented on the character of Gisborne that it would be interesting if the character have to struggle for money, girl or power. He has appered in The Vicar of Dibley, Red Nose Day, George Gently, Miss Marie Lloyd-Queen of The Music Hall and Ordeal by Innocence. He expressed his interest playing the role of Lucas North in Spooks who has a complex psychology. On May 20, 2009, he played the role of John Mulligan in the BBC1 drama Moving On. Sky1’ Strike Back, he played former S.A.S trooper.

In July 2011, Captain America: The First Avenger was released where he played the role of Nazi spy. In his acting career, he has played different characters. Armitage played the character of a school teacher in Into the Storm. In March 2014, he started shooting for Urban Grimshaw and the Shed Crew. Armitage has given his voice in BBC Radio 4. Ten audio books have been recorded by him. He has worked as a narrator in TV documentaries like Homes From Hell, Too Poor for Posh School?, Empire’s Children, Surgery School, Forest Elephants: Rumble in the Jungle, The Great Sperm Race and Elsa: The Lioness That Changed the World. He has also given his voice for many radio and television advertisements.
